After many hours of work and plenty of complicated trigonometry and guesstimating the cage is in. Still work left to do but this big project is now complete.

Tires
Tires for the race were delivered today. Cooper Zeon RS3-S in 225/45 17. Haven’t seen many reviews but they were on sale and met the treadwear requirement for lemons
Wiring
The most time consuming project so far has been fixing and removing the unnecessary wiring. Since the car originally came with a 4 cylinder, we had to make a number of changes just get the new v6 to start and run correctly. The 4 cylinder dash wiring harness provides power to a separate ECU relay which when cycled will power up the ECU which triggers the fuel pump, injectors, ignition coils and so on. In the 2.8 and 2.7 V6 engines, that ECU relay is internal. We repinned the dash harness and main fuse box to match the V6 harness and power the ECU directly. Once the engine was running, the next step was to strip out all the accessory wiring. All Audi cars come prewired for every possible option, for both European and NA models. That means that the dash harness and chassis harness include wiring for navigation, heated seats, upgraded sound systems, mobile phones and other items that a track car doesn’t need. In the end something like 35 lbs of wiring was removed from both harnesses and everything was simplified to the bare necessities such as lights, wipers, fuel pump and instrumentation.
Build Pictures
We’ve been working on the car for about a year. Aside from basic maintenance on our engine, some new gaskets and fluids, a majority of the work has been stripping out the emissions equipment, the interior and all the non-essential wiring.
The Car
Our chosen chariot for this adventure is a 2000 Audi A4. Pulled from a garage sans engine and transmission after having sat since 2012. The car started life in Florida as a 1.8 4 cylinder with a 5 speed manual transmission. The original motor and transmission was removed at some point for a second 1.8 4 cylinder. That motor was long gone by the time we purchased the vehicle in 2018. During its lifetime, it appears that car received received a partial S4 suspension retrofit, a swap to an older style AEB 4 cylinder motor and a variety of other aftermarket upgrades and changes. For our purposes, a 2.8 6 cylinder motor was found via Craigslist in a storage unit in a cornfield for $200. Mileage unknown, possibly from a chopshop but it was almost complete including the wire harness and most of the accessories. A 5 speed transmission from a local junkyard rounds out the drivetrain.
We purchased the car mostly disassembled, surprisingly we found bits and pieces of at least 3 different cars inside, all with different interior colors along with other random mechanical and suspension parts.
